Gain the knowledge and skills you need to address public health issues at a national and international level with this full-time (one year course with 60 CFUs), first level master’s in public health (MPH) degree programme (taught in English) from the University of Eastern Piedmont (Università del Piemonte Orientale) “Amedeo Avogadro”. The MPH program provides you with a solid foundation in public health, including the research methods that underpin public health field.
The MPH is internationally recognised for its multidisciplinary focus and commitment to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Health for All principles. It is an essential programme if you work in any area of public health: government organisations, health service management, policy and planning, housing, transport or for community groups and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
Public health aims to address the wider determinants of health. As it is a multidisciplinary subject, students come from a wide range of backgrounds, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, occupational therapy, public health, health services management, environmental health, psychology, physical therapy and graduates with backgrounds in the natural sciences, social sciences or humanities.

After completing your degree, you will have the knowledge and skills to apply public health principles in a variety of settings, including research, practice and policy. Your expertise could open
up senior positions in public health research and practice in a range of sectors, such as health organisations, government organisations, charities and NGOs.
As a medical and health services manager, you are responsible for planning and coordinating services in a health facility, department or medical clinic for doctors and nurses. You will need to keep up to date with changes in regulations, legislation and new technologies in the healthcare sector. In this role, you may need to train staff, develop team goals and monitor budgets and performance, which requires good organisational and communication skills.
A biostatistician strives to answer pressing public health and medical questions using statistical analysis. They might research what causes cancer, whether a new prescription drug works, how harmful certain chemicals are to the body, or how long a pandemic will last. Using data such as disease rates or genetic information, they design clinical trials to evaluate drug or patient outcomes. If you enjoy applying statistics and mathematics to global health, this can be a lucrative path for you.
Healthcare consultants are a specialised version of business consultants or business analysts hired by healthcare organisations to focus on investigating a medical or pharmaceutical business to improve production, supply chain and other lean management practises. Using data analytics, you will work with the company to help them find ways to be more efficient. Often you will work as an employee or independent contractor.
Epidemiologists study the patterns and causes of diseases, injuries and disorders in society. The epidemiologists work to reduce disease incidents, prevalence and risk through research, education and health policy. They can therefore work in governments, in the private sector with health insurance or pharmaceutical companies, or in non-profit organisations. Epidemiologists are usually specialised in areas such as maternal health, infectious diseases, environmental health, genetics, emergency response or mental health. You might consider epidemiology if you are interested in any of these topics.
As an occupational health and safety specialist, you will collect data and analyse different types of work environments to ensure that health and safety regulations are correctly followed. You will be expected to inspect workplace environments and equipment, write reports and train workers with training programmes. This can be a great opportunity for someone who is organised and enjoys routines, enforcing rules and interacting with others.
Social and community services managers usually lead teams that deliver public services, so those who specialise in public or global health also work in health care. They manage projects and design programmes that address the health of a specific group, such
as children, homeless or drug addicts. Skills required for these roles include communication, analysis, problem solving and time management.
Health educators teach people how to feel good and how to stay healthy. They develop strategies to improve well-being health related quality of life by assessing the needs of individuals and communities, educating them about health, and advocating for public health reform. Health education specialists may work in health facilities, non-profit organisations and public health departments to improve society’s knowledge of good health practises.
